PRFC FALLS SHORT AGAINST MIAMI FC BUT STILL TIED FOR SECOND PLACE

Sep 2, 2017

San Juan, Puerto Rico - For the first time in its history, Puerto Rico FC fell at Riccardo Silva Stadium against Miami FC. In the second consecutive match between these clubs, a goal from Jaime Chavez was the only thing needed by the home side to earn the 1-0 victory.

It was a very exciting match from the start, with a very aggressive Puerto Rico looking to avenge the result from the previous week. Shots from Jairo Puerto, Mario Martinez, Giuseppe Gentile and Hector "Pito" Ramos in the first half showed that PRFC had no interest in playing it safe. It was Pito who had the best chance of the that half with a free kick right in front of the Miami goal, but his shot missed the mark by mere inches.

In the 54th minute, Pito was in the center of the action once again when he received a cross inside the penalty area. With his strength, he managed to turn towards the goal and take an uncomfortable shot, but the ball hit the post. Gentile had a chance to strike the rebound, but his shot went just over the crossbar.

Despite the offensive efforts, it was Miami who found the back of the net first and for the second consecutive week it was via Jaime Chavez. The forward received a cross from Blake Smith inside the area and headed the ball in to take the lead 1-0.

Puerto Rico had chances to get an equalize in stoppage time with two shots in front of the goal by Sidney Rivera, but one went over the goal and the other was stopped by Daniel Vega.

Puerto Rico FC returns to Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium on Saturday, September 9 to host the New York Cosmos on Puerto Rican Culture Night. There will be live music, artisans, gifts and Medalla Light Happy Hour of 2 for $ 3. Get your tickets at PRTicket.com or by calling 787-722-PRFC.
